Teak is known as one of the most valuable woods in Bangladesh, cultivated and used notably in Chattogram and the hill regions. Its scientific name is Tectona grandis. Teak wood is usually golden brown to dark brown in color and contains natural oils that make it inherently durable and insect-resistant.
Being heavy, strong, and long-lasting, teak is widely used for premium furniture, boat building, doors and windows, and outdoor structures. After seasoning it shows minimal warping and withstands environmental stress well. In Bangladesh's timber industry, teak is regarded as the “king of woods”.
