Gamari wood, known in Bangladesh especially from the Chattogram region, is considered a medium-density, easy-to-work timber. Its scientific name is Gmelina arborea, one of the fastest-growing tree species. Gamari wood is usually light yellow to golden brown in color, with a smooth texture and medium, fairly straight to slightly wavy grain. Being lightweight, it is widely used for furniture, doors and windows, beds, frames, light structural work, carving, and interior decoration. It is naturally somewhat resistant to termites and fungus, though proper treatment may be needed for exterior use. Thanks to its fast growth and easy availability, Gamari has become a popular and economical choice in Bangladesh's local timber industry.
