Chapalish is known as a familiar native hardwood of Bangladesh and India. Its scientific name is Artocarpus chaplasha. The wood is found mainly in Bangladesh, northeastern India, and Myanmar, and is widely used in household construction, doors and windows, furniture, flooring, and structural work. The wood is usually light brown to yellowish brown, and since its grain is quite straight and even, it is easy to work with. Chapalish wood has medium to good strength and density, and when properly seasoned it remains durable for a long time. It has moderate natural resistance against decay and insects, though chemical treatment further increases its lifespan for outdoor or long-term use. Thanks to its quality, easy availability, and comparatively low cost, Chapalish is regarded as a reliable timber for both household and commercial work.
